Judith Rietjens from Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, opens up about her own experiences becoming a researcher. As a titan in the palliative care field Judith’s behind the scenes look at what it takes to be a researcher can benefit people in all disciplines. She speaks about how it is important to recognize how one’s opinion as a researcher can be of influence. Finding your own voice in research can also be difficult and Judith reflects on this through her experience teaching at Yale. She found talking to people outside of the Dutch research bubble to give her a fresh perspective. From this she was able to have a better working understanding of what it takes to do good research for the long term and to not get burnt out in such a demanding profession in order to produce amazing research that will help patients in the future.
